Royals' Meche seeks fourth straight win vs. Orioles
Jul 2, 2008 - 12:56 PM Kansas City (38-46) at Baltimore (42-40) 7:05 pm. EDTBALTIMORE (Ticker) -- Gil Meche looks to continue his stellar run as the Kansas City Royals continue a four-game series with the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday.
Kansas City, which has won 12 of its last 16, had its six-game road winning streak snapped with a 7-5 loss on Tuesday. It was the longest winning streak since the Royals won seven in a row away from home in 1989.
Fortunately for Kansas City, Meche (6-8, 4.66 ERA) represents their best chance at starting a new streak. The righthander has won three straight starts, posting a 2.25 ERA in that span. Meche is trying to win four straight starts for the first time since May 16-June 4, 2003 when he was with Seattle.
Meche is 0-5 with a 3.32 ERA in his last seven starts against Baltimore, though.
Meanwhile, Daniel Cabrera (5-4, 4.53) is the polar opposite of Meche. The righthander is 0-3 with a 6.21 ERA in his last seven starts, but hopes his dominance of the Royals can help change that. Caberera is 4-0 with a 2.25 ERA in seven career starts vs. Kansas City.
Cabrera will look to take advantage of a Royals' lineup that may be missing leadoff hitter David DeJesus once gain. DeJesus has missed the last two games after suffereing bruised ribs when he fell on St. Louis catcher Jason LaRue's mask in a collision at home plate on Sunday. DeJesus is hitting .404 (21-for-52) with 12 runs scored and 14 RBI during a 13-game hitting streak.
