Top MLB Betting Odds & Picks for Saturday, May 14 (2022)

There are tons of exciting matchups for today’s MLB slate. Tonight, there’s going to be a good mixture of overs and unders with plenty of studs on the mound and plenty of duds on the mound.

Here are my top three favorite bets for the MLB slate on May 14th.

San Diego Padres vs. Atlanta Braves 

The Padres and Braves ended up scoring 14 runs in a game that was started by Yu Darvish and Max Fried. That’s how well these offenses are starting to come together.

Today, it’ll be Charlie Morton of the Braves and Sean Manaea of the Padres taking the mound. Morton has allowed two or more runs in every start but one this season. In the last 30 days, Morton has a 7.06 xFIP with 15.7% strikeouts and 13.9% walks.

Meanwhile, Manaea has a 5.13 xFIP with 8.8% of walks in the last 30 days. The difference between the two pitchers is that Manaea is earning 24.5% strikeouts and will take on a Braves lineup that has struck out 30.9% of the time against lefties in the last 30 days.

Manaea can work out of jams with strikeouts. Morton likely won’t be able to.

Bet: Padres (+120 at DraftKings) 

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Tampa Bay Rays

This is always a fun series between the two teams. The Blue Jays are getting closer to .500 and would be back to .500 with a loss tonight. But I don’t think they’ll lose.

The Blue Jays will take on Ryan Yarbrough of the Rays, who is a left-hander that has struggled against the Blue Jays in the past. The Blue Jays are mostly right-handed in their lineup and have nine homers against Yarbrough within the lineup. Look for the Blue Jays to have a solid offensive day against Yarbrough. They’ll just need to hold onto the lead after they get it.

Bet: Blue Jays (+105 at DraftKings) 

New York Yankees vs. Chicago White Sox

Alright, I’ll stop with the plus-money bets.

The Yankees have been one of the hottest teams in baseball. The offense is cruising and the starting pitching has excelled. Tonight, the Yankees will face Dallas Keuchel, a lefty pitcher who just can’t get strikeouts anymore.

Keuchel has a 6.64 xFIP with 9.2% strikeouts and 13.8% walks. He’s usually a very good ground ball pitcher but he’s inducing just 51.8% in the last 30 days. That’s still above-average, but for Keuchel, that number is usually higher.

On the other hand, the White Sox will take on Jordan Montgomery, who has been average all year. However, the White Sox have just three powerful bats in their order against lefties. All other hitters have been awful against lefties this season. I’ll take my chances with the Yankees.
