Galarraga, Tigers hope to get on track
Jul 5, 2008 - 1:12 PM Detroit (43-43) at Seattle (34-52) 10:10 pm EDTSEATTLE (Ticker) -- The Detroit Tigers look to move back above the .500 mark Saturday when they face the Seattle Mariners.
Detroit lost for the third time in four games Friday, enduring a 4-1 setback. The Tigers had won six in a row before their recent slump.
The Tigers hand the ball to Armando Galarraga (7-2, 3.40 ERA), who is trying to extend his personal winning streak to five.
The 25-year-old righthander has struggled in his last two outings, giving up a total of nine runs and 17 hits over 10 2\3 frames. However, the rookie from Venezuela escaped with no decisions in both contests. He is making his first appearance against Seattle as his club hopes to improve upon its 11-2 mark when he starts.
The Mariners, who have won three of four and eight of 11, turn to R.A. Dickey (2-4, 4.53), who is 3-1 in four career starts against Detroit.
The righthander has struggled as a starter, producing a 1-4 record with an unimpressive 6.93 ERA in five outings. The 33-year-old allowed two runs and nine hits in 6 1-3 innings in a 2-0 loss to Toronto last Monday.
Seattle is 9-5 since Jim Riggleman replaced John McLaren as manager on June 20.
