Kinsler hopes to extend hit streak, lead Rangers
Jul 6, 2008 - 12:53 PM Texas (45-43) at Baltimore (44-42), 1:35 pm EDTBALTIMORE (Ticker) -- Ian Kinsler will try to extend his hitting streak to 18 games as the Texas Rangers square off against the Baltimore Orioles in the rubber match of a three-game set on Sunday.
The Rangers' second baseman is batting .420 during his 17-game run and hopes to be among the names selected on Sunday to participate in the All-Star Game at Yankee Stadium.
Radhames Liz (3-0, 5.46) will be the latest starting pitcher to attempt trying to stymie Kinsler's hot bat and the heavy-hitting Rangers.
The 25-year-old Orioles starter has the task of facing the American League's highest scoring club after coming off two straight wins against the Chicago Cubs and Kansas City Royals, respectively.
The Rangers will counter with Kevin Millwood (5-4, 4.90), who did not factor in the decision against the New York Yankees on Tuesday despite allowing just one run in five solid innings.
Kinsler was 2-for-3 with two RBI on and was supported by a 3-for-3 outing by German Duran. Josh Hamilton, who also is a strong candidate to play in the Midsummer Classic, was 2-for-5 against the Orioles on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Jarrod Saltalamacchia left Saturday's game with a right groin strain and his status is unknown for Sunday.
Texas dropped the first game of the series on Friday when Baltimore tagged starter Vicente Padilla for eight runs and nine hits in just 2 2/3 innings.
