Tired Braves start three-game set vs. resurgent Dodgers
Jul 7, 2008 - 1:30 PM Atlanta (42-47) at LA Dodgers (43-45) 10:10pm ETLOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- While many consider Southern California a place to relax, it is probably not where the Atlanta Braves wanted to go after the longest game in Turner Field history. On Monday, they'll need to be prepared to face a resurgent Los Angeles Dodgers team.
The weary Braves prepare for the series opener of a three-game set against the Dodgers.
Atlanta, which has won two of three following a five-game losing streak, was extended to 17 innings in its last victory, getting a walk-off, bases-loaded single to defeat Houston, 7-6, and end a 5-hour, 35-minute marathon that was delayed an additional one hour and 50 minutes because of rain.
With Sunday's win requiring six relievers, the onus will be on Jorge Campillo (3-3, 2.99 ERA) to produce a solid outing for the Braves. The righthander who is looking to rebound from his third loss in four games, surrendered five runs and eight hits over five innings in Wednesday's 7-3 loss to Philadelphia.
The Dodgers, who are 5-1 in July, will counter with Hiroki Kuroda (4-6, 3.73), who will attempt to carry over the success he enjoyed in his last start.
In Wednesday's 4-1 win at Houston, the righthander allowed five hits over seven scoreless frames, posting a win in his first start since returning from the disabled list June 19.
