Wolf, Padres seek to end nine-game home losing streak

Jul 8, 2008 - 1:55 PM Florida (46-43) at San Diego (35-55) 10:05 pm. EDT

SAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- Randy Wolf hopes to end a pair of losing streak when he takes the hill on Tuesday as the San Diego Padres continue a three-game series with the Florida Marlins.

Ricky Nolasco threw eight solid innings and Jorge Cantu hit a two-run home run to lead the Marlins to a 3-1 victory on Monday. It was the Padres' ninth straight home loss - the most since August 11 - 30, 1980 when they played at Jack Murphy Stadium.

Wolf (5-8, 4.59 ERA) hopes to put an end to that streak, as well as end a personal four-game skid. The lefthander is 0-4 with a 8.30 ERA since his last win on June 11. On Wednesday, Wolf was rocked for seven runs and six hits in four innings of a 8-1 loss to Colorado.

Things don't figure to get any easier against the Marlins, as the former Philadelphia Phillie is 3-12 with a 6.24 ERA in 19 games against Florida. All-Star shortstop Hanley Ramirez will try and extend his career-best 14-game hitting streak against Wolf.

Meanwhile, the Marlins counter with a struggling lefthander of their own in rookie Andrew Miller (5-7, 4.98). The 23-year-old Miller is 1-4 with a 4.53 ERA in his last eight starts. However, Miller did beat the Padres on May 4, as he allowed two runs and four hits in six innings.
