Santana looks to end losing streak as Mets face Giants
Jul 9, 2008 - 1:18 PM San Francisco (39-51) at NY Mets (46-44), 7:10 pm EDTFLUSHING, New York (Ticker) -- Johan Santana will be looking for some much-needed run support when the New York Mets host the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday in the middle contest of a three-game series.
Santana (7-7, 2.96 ERA) has posted a 2.48 ERA in his last six starts, but is 0-4 during that span due in large part to his team's offensive struggles - the Mets have tallied just 11 runs total in those games.
New York, however, was able to score seven runs - including four against All-Star pitcher Tim Lincecum - in Tuesday's 7-0 win over the Giants.
Carlos Beltran broke out of a 7-for-40 slump in the win with a three-hit effort that included a home run and four RBI. Santana, a former Cy Young Award-winner, can only hope the bats stay hot.
Jonathan Sanchez (8-4, 3.87) will take the mound for San Francisco, which looks to snap a two-game losing streak.
Aaron Roward is 8-for-18 over the past five games and continues to lead the Giants in batting average (.299).
