Brewers look to split four-game series with Rockies
Jul 10, 2008 - 11:10 AM Colorado (39-53) at Milwaukee (50-41), 2:05 pm EDTMILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- The Milwaukee Brewers will have to find a way to silence Garrett Atkins on Thursday if they plan on earning a split of their four-game series with the Colorado Rockies.
Atkins has dominated in the past two games, going 5-for-6 with two home runs, three RBI, four runs scored and two walks for the Rockies, who have won seven of their last nine.
On Wednesday, the third baseman hit a two-run homer against Brewers starter Ben Sheets in the sixth and followed with a solo shot in the eighth. He also singled, raising his average to .315.
Dave Bush (4-8, 4.74 ERA) could've been pitching for job security in the Brewers' rotation, but with the recent injury to Jeff Suppan, his services will be needed to complement CC Sabathia and Sheets.
The righthander is coming off a brilliant outing against the Pittsburgh Pirates in which he tossed eight innings and allowed just one run and four hits.
Colorado will counter with Jorge De La Rosa (3-4, 6.58), who has yet to pitch past the sixth inning in any of his 10 starts.
Matt Holliday singled in the first inning on Wednesday to extend his hitting streak to 13 games for the Rockies.
J.J. Hardy has been hot for the Brewers, hitting .412 (35-for-85) since June 11.
