Parra poised to continue strong pitching for Brewers
Jul 11, 2008 - 10:11 AM Cincinnati (44-49) at Milwaukee (51-41) 8:05 p.m. EDTMILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Manny Parra looks to become the latest pitcher to find success for the Milwaukee Brewers when he takes the mound Friday in the opener of a three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds.
The Brewers salvaged a series split with the Colorado Rockies on the strength of a stellar pitching performance by Dave Bush on Thursday. Bush allowed just one run and three hits while striking out 13 en route to an 11-1 victory.
Bush's performance came just one day after Ben Sheets surrendered three runs, five hits and logged 11 strikeouts in six innings but suffered a hard-luck loss as the bullpen yielded five runs over the final three frames during Milwaukee's 8-3 setback.
Parra (8-2, 3.65 ERA) appears poised to continue that trend as he is well-rested after his start was pushed back to accommodate newly acquired CC Sabathia.
The 25-year-old lefthander pitched six scoreless innings during his last start on July 3, yielding just four hits and three walks while striking out four. Parra did not factor in the decision, however, as the Brewers suffered a 6-5 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Josh Fogg (1-2, 8.39) will be making his second start after returning from the disabled list with back spasms for the Reds. Fogg allowed just one run and six hits in six innings, but took a no-decision during Saturday's 3-2 victory over the Washington Nationals.
