Tigers hope to rebound against Twins
Jul 11, 2008 - 1:33 PM Minnesota (51-41) at Detroit (46-45) 7:05 p.m. EDTDETROIT (Ticker) -- The Detroit Tigers look to bounce back from a tough loss when they host the Minnesota Twins in the second game of a four-game set on Friday.
Detroit blew a four-run lead Thursday, including a two-run advantage in the ninth, dropping a 7-6, 11-inning contest in the series opener. After an error on Tigers' right fielder Matt Joyce aided the comeback in the ninth, All-Star Justin Morneau lined the game-winning home run just over the wall in right with one out in the 11th. The homer was his fifth hit of the game.
The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Tigers, who will send rookie Armando Galarraga (7-2, 3.27 ERA) to the hill.
Galarraga has struggled against Minnesota this season, going 0-2 - the only two losses of his career - with a 5.00 ERA in three starts. The righthander has had three consecutive no-decisions but hasn't lost since May 23.
The Twins will counter with Glen Perkins (5-2, 4.47), who has won his last three decisions and has not lost since May 30. The lefthander allowed three runs over seven innings on Sunday as the Twins defeated the Cleveland Indians, 4-3. He is 1-0 in two starts against Detroit this season.
