Hairston, Padres look to stay hot vs. Braves
Jul 12, 2008 - 1:37 PM Atlanta (43-50) at San Diego (37-56) 10:05 p.m. EDTSAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- Scott Hairston and the San Diego Padres go for their fifth win in the last eight games on Saturday when they continue a three-game series against the Atlanta Braves.
Hairston has been red-hot lately and continued that trend on Friday, logging a pair of hits while scoring two runs to help the Padres post a 4-0 victory over the Braves.
The 28-year-old left fielder has gone 17-for-34 with six doubles, a triple and five home runs in his last 11 games. Hairston has also scored nine runs and driven in nine over that span.
Rookie Charlie Morton (1-2, 6.84 ERA) looks to keep Hairston and the rest of the Padres in check on Saturday when he toes the rubber for Atlanta.
Morton has lost each of his last two decisions and allowed six runs and eight hits in six innings, walking two while striking out two. He did not factor in the decision during Sunday's 7-6 victory over the Houston Astros.
Greg Maddux (3-7, 3.90) goes for his first win since May 10 when he takes the mound for the Padres. Maddux is 0-4 over his previous 11 starts but pitched well his last time out, allowing just two runs - one earned - and four hits in six innings.
A former staple of the Braves rotation during the club's glory years, Maddux is just 1-2 with a 6.85 ERA in four starts against Atlanta since parting ways the team at the end of 2003.
