Jun 25, 2022 - 12:42 PMWe have some exciting games to look for the Saturday. We can’t ignore the most compelling series of the weekend, especially when one of the pitchers is going against his former team. We also have another exciting game that is a 2021 playoff rematch and they could very well see each other again in October.

Houston Astros vs. New York Yankees
- Leg 1: Yankees -1.5 (+125)
- Leg 2: Gerritt Cole over 6.5 strikeouts (-156)
- Leg 3: Aaron Judge to record 2+ total bases
This series is 1-1 heading into the Saturday after two close games.
The Astros will send up Cristian Javier, and when he’s on, the guy is nearly untouchable. All of his pitches have excellent movement – he can get you to climb the ladder with his fastball or lock you up with the slider.
His one problem all season is his control issues with 3.7 walks per nine. Dusty Baker has no problem giving Javier the hook if he runs into trouble, which could be early as the Yanks are second with a 10.0 walk percentage. They’ll be patient at the plate and could have plenty of scoring chances.
On the other side, Gerrit Cole has had one bad start in June, allowing seven earned against the Twins, but in the other three, he’s allowed just one. It’s a revenge game for Cole as he faces his old team — in his one start against the Astros since signing with New York, he pitched a complete game shutout with 12 strikeouts last season in Houston.
He will have that extra juice in this game and help give New York a 2-1 advantage in the series.

New York Mets vs. Miami Marlins
- Leg 1: Over 8 (-110)
- Leg 2: New York Mets ML (-158)
- Leg 3: Brandon Nimmo to record 2+ total bases (+105)
- Leg 4: Chris Bassett over 5.5 strikeouts (-154)
The Mets will try and seal another series win against the Marlins after taking three of four earlier in the week.
It’s been a very rough June for Trevor Rogers as he comes in with a 7.27 ERA for the month, and control issues have all of a sudden come up as he’s allowed s 14 walks in 17.1 innings. He’s coming off a loss against the Mets, where he allowed three earned runs in the loss. In that start, you saw them make a lot of solid contact against Rodgers, including some loud outs.
The Mets will counter with Chris Bassett, and he also hasn’t been pitching well recently. In his four starts in June, he’s 1-3 with a 4.94 ERA. He’s coming off the previous start against the Marlins, where he allowed three earned in a loss.
Two struggling pitchers going against teams they’ve already had a bad outing against means the over will be a great bet. I’m giving the Mets the advantage as they’ve been dominating against the Marlins all season.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Atlanta Braves
The Dodgers were able to come in against the surging Braves and grab the first win of the series, backed by a solid start by Julio Urias.
LA’s Mitch White has switched from the bullpen to rotation a couple of times in the last two seasons, and he’s done well in his four previous starts this year with a 3.13 ERA and an opponent batting average of .158 and OPS of .558. This season, he has an appearance against the Braves as he closed out a win pitching two innings, allowing an earned run and struck out two.
Max Fried is having another fantastic season anchoring this Braves rotation as he’s in the 80th percentile or better in chase rate, walk percentage, and barrel percentage. He’s gotten even better this year with mixing his pitching as he’s getting more movement in his slider and changeup, which has increased the put away percentage in both of those pitches. He already has an impressive start pitching seven shutout innings and striking out eight in the win.
This could be a good matchup, but you can’t go against Fried, who’s been one of the best in the league this season and has dominating start against a good offense.
