The Rays have lost four straight games, including the first two of this five-game set with the Blue Jays. They’ll look to get back in the win column this afternoon as they Shane McClanahan to the bump. The Jays go for their third straight win as they counter with Kevin Gausman in this A.L. East showdown scheduled for 12:07 p.m. ET from Rogers Centre. 

McClanahan has been arguably the best starting pitcher in baseball this season. He comes in at 8-3 with a 1.77 ERA (2nd), 0.83 WHIP (2nd), and he’s struck out the second-most batters in MLB this year (123). The southpaw’s coming off of a dominant outing against the Pirates, where he limited them to one earned run on four hits over 7.0 innings.

Gausman has been a very dependable option for the Jays this year. The right-hander is 6-6 with a 2.93 ERA (17th) and 1.24 WHIP (42nd) over 15 starts. Gausman last pitched on Monday against the Red Sox, holding them scoreless over 7.0 innings and giving up just four hits and a pair of walks. 

Sticking with Gausman, the veteran righty has thrown well against the Rays in his career. He’s limited them to 7-42 (.167) in his career with just two extra-base hits. As for McClanahan, I feel confident backing him in any NRFI situation this year. He posted a 1.36 ERA and 0.70 WHIP over five starts in June.
