New-look Phillies open three-game set with Marlins

MIAMI (Ticker) -- In the thick of the National League East race, the Philadelphia Phillies pulled the trigger and acquired righthander Joe Blanton from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for three prospects on Thursday.

While the Phillies haven't announced when Blanton will make his first appearance, they will send 45-year-old Jamie Moyer to the mound on Friday against the Florida Marlins.

The lefthanded Moyer (8-6, 3.95 ERA) is being counted on to help Philadelphia keep pace with the New York Mets, who pulled into a tie for first with a 10-8 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday.

Ricky Nolasco (10-4, 3.70) takes the mound for the Marlins, who have won the righthander's last seven starts and 10 of his last 11. In Nolasco's final four starts before the break, he went 3-0 with a 1.86 ERA, 30 strikeouts and two walks in 29 innings.

Marlins second baseman Dan Uggla, who made a record three errors in the All-Star Game on Tuesday, is 2-for-21 (.095) with 10 strikeouts against Moyer.

Philadelphia and Florida have split six games this season.
