Mets look to keep rolling, eye 11th straight win
Jul 18, 2008 - 10:16 AM NY Mets (52-44) at Cincinnati (46-51) 7:10 p.m.CINCINNATI (Ticker) -- The New York Mets aim to match the longest winning streak in franchise history when they take on the Cincinnati Reds in the second game of a four-game series on Friday.
New York scored four runs in the top of the ninth to post a 10-8 win on Thursday for its 10th straight victory. David Wright hit a game-tying two-run homer and Carlos Delgado and Fernando Tatis had run-scoring hits off closer Francisco Cordero.
The Mets, who last had a 10-game winning streak from July 1-13, 1991, have won 11 straight four times in franchise history, most recently from June 17-29, 1990.
The streak has also moved the Mets into a tie atop the National League East Division with the Philadelphia Phillies (52-44), marking the first time since April 19 that they have had at least a share of the division lead.
John Maine (8-6, 3.99 ERA) will take the mound for New York. The righthander has failed to make it past six innings in each of his last three starts and lasted 4 2/3 in his last appearance against San Francisco on July 10. Maine surrendered three runs but did not factor in the decision as New York won, 7-3.
Bronson Arroyo (7-7, 5.97) looks to stop the Mets' streak.
The righthander has won his last three starts since allowing 10 runs in one inning on June 24, although he allowed five runs in five innings in his last appearance as Cincinnati defeated the Chicago Cubs, 12-7, on July 10.
