Zambrano, Cubs look to avenge Friday loss to Astros
Jul 19, 2008 - 10:16 AM Chi Cubs (57-39) at Houston (45-51), 7:05 pm EDTHOUSTON (Ticker) -- Carlos Zambrano hopes to match Ted Lilly's production from Friday, but finish with a different result.
The Chicago Cubs send their ace to the mound as they take on the Houston Astros on Saturday after being edged in the ninth inning during the series opener.
Ted Lilly allowed one run and six hits in seven solid innings, but got a no-decision since Hunter Pence hit an RBI double in the ninth to win the game.
Zambrano (10-3, 2.84 ERA) faced the Astros on April 6 - his second start of the season - and surrendered two runs and seven hits while striking out seven in seven innings. In his most recent outing, he allowed one run and one hit in eight brilliant innings against the Cincinnati Reds for his 10th win of the year. The hard-throwing righthander hasn't reached the 20-game plateau in his career, but should threaten or pass last season's 18 victories.
The Cubs own the best record in the National League and hope to stymie the struggling Astros, who rank 12th in the league in runs scored.
Houston starter Wandy Rodriguez (4-3, 3.48), who has pitched at least seven innings once since April 13, looks to earn his third straight winning decision. The 27-year-old lefthander hasn't lost since June 14 when he dropped an 8-4 decision to the New York Yankees.
Carlos Lee blasted his 22nd homer on Friday and is on pace to surpass last season's total of 32.
Pence batted .263 in the first half after posting a stellar .322 overall mark in 2007.
