Rockies look to complete sweep of Pirates, continue second-half streak
Jul 20, 2008 - 3:09 PM Pittsburgh (44-53) at Colorado (42-57) 3:05 pm EDTDENVER (Ticker) -- The Colorado Rockies made quite an impressive run in the second half last season and it appears they may be on the brink of pulling off more comeback tricks in 2008.
The Rockies will look to win their fourth game in a row to begin the final portion of the season and complete a series sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday.
All-Star Aaron Cook (11-6, 3.57 ERA) will take the mound for Colorado after tossing three key innings in the Midsummer Classic on Tuesday at Yankee Stadium.
Cook, a first-time All-Star, has allowed 10 hits or more in four of his past 10 starts and is 4-3 in that span.
Garrett Atkins and Omar Quintanilla sparked a five-run first-inning rally to spark a 7-1 victory on Saturday, while starter Jorge De La Rosa threw six solid innings.
During Friday's 5-2 triumph, Glendon Rusch threw 5 2/3 innings and was supported by three scoreless innings of relief by Jason Grilli, Manny Corpas and Brian Fuentes. On Thursday, Ubaldo Jimenez tossed seven innings and allowed three runs en route to a 5-3 win.
The Pirates will turn to Zach Duke (4-6, 4.40), who is 2-0 with a 2.77 ERA in two career starts against the Rockies.
Xavier Nady, who has missed the first two games of the series with shoulder problems, came in as a pinch hitter on Saturday and singled in the ninth.
Pittsburgh managed just one run on Saturday, an RBI single by Ryan Doumit in the first.
