Brewers aim for sixth straight win vs. Cardinals
Jul 22, 2008 - 10:08 AM Milwaukee (56-43) at St. Louis (57-44) 8:15 EDTST. LOUIS (Ticker) -- The Milwaukee Brewers have been the most aggressive team in the majors in trying to improve the product on the field over the past few weeks.
The moves have produced results as the new and improved Brewers will be looking for their sixth consecutive win against the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday.
On his first night in a Brewers uniform on Monday, veteran second baseman Ray Durham appeared as a pinch hitter going 0-for-1 in a 6-3 win in 10 innings. The victory moved the Brewers into a tie with the Cardinals for second place in the National League Central, two games behind the Chicago Cubs .
Durham joined ace CC Sabathia, who came over from the Cleveland Indians on July 7, as a part of Milwaukee's effort to reach the postseason for the first time since 1982.
The Brewers are probably not done on the trade front, with a relief pitcher next on their shopping list before the July 31 deadline.
While Sabathia will get his chance at a fourth straight win and third straight complete game on Wednesday, Milwaukee will turn to veteran Jeff Suppan (5-6, 4.71 ERA) on Tuesday. The righthander will be making his first start since July 6 after a stay on the disabled list due to joint irritation in his right elbow.
St. Louis will counter with the surprising Kyle Lohse (12-2, 3.35), who has not suffered a loss since May 8. The righthander has allowed two earned runs or fewer in eight of his last 10 starts, including two in seven innings Thursday in a win against San Diego.
Lohse faced the Brewers in back-to-back starts in April, combining to allow six runs in 11 innings.
