Matsuzaka goes for 11th win vs. Mariners

SEATTLE (Ticker) -- Daisuke Matsuzaka will be looking for his 11th win as the Boston Red Sox attempt to put together back-to-back road wins Tuesday against the Seattle Mariners.

The Red Sox are 22-32 away from Fenway Park after a win in the series opener Monday night and have won back-to-back games on the road just seven times.

Jon Lester and Jason Varitek helped snap a five-game road skid Monday. Lester tossed 7 1/3 scoreless innings and Varitek homered for the first time since June 11 in the 4-0 win.

Matsuzaka (10-1, 2.65 ERA) has not pitched since July 13 and has not allowed a run in his last 17.1 innings and has surrendered one run in his last 23.1 frames, going 2-0 in that span. The Japanese righthander ranks ninth in the American League in strikeouts per nine innings, helping to offset his 57 walks issued in 88 1/3 innings.

Dice-K allowed three runs - two earned - and four hits in four innings against the Mariners on May 27 before leaving with shoulder fatigue and making his first career appearance on the disabled list.

The worst team in the AL, Seattle will try to avoid its fourth straight setback with knuckleballer R.A. Dickey on the mound. The righthander has bounced between the rotation, the bullpen and the minor leagues for the Mariners, going 1-4 with a 5.02 ERA as a starter.

He allowed one run and two hits in 2 2/3 innings in a relief appearance against Boston on June 7.
