Lind, Blue Jays look to capture series vs. Orioles

Jul 23, 2008 - 12:11 PM Toronto (49-51) at Baltimore (48-51) 7:05 p.m. EDT

BALTIMORE (Ticker) -- Adam Lind has been a big part of the Toronto Blue Jays' offensive resurgence over the last few weeks. He'll try to continue his hot hitting when the Blue Jays visit the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday.

Lind recorded a career-high four hits Tuesday - including a go-ahead, three-run homer in the sixth - as Toronto posted a 10-8 victory in the second game of this four-game set at Camden Yards.

The 25-year-old outfielder has been shuttled back and forth between the Blue Jays roster and the minor leagues for the past three seasons, but the club finally appears committed to giving him an extended. Recalled the day after Cito Gaston replaced John Gibbons as manager on June 20, Lind has hit .346 (27-for-78) with five homers and 22 RBI in 22 games.

Toronto has won seven of its last 11 games, averaging more than five runs per game over that span.

The Blue Jays will take their cuts Wednesday against Baltimore's Jeremy Guthrie (6-7, 3.60 ERA). The righthander has picked up a win in each of his last three decisions, beating the Detroit Tigers last Thursday while allowing four runs in six innings.

Guthrie had one of his best starts of the season against the Blue Jays on June 7, allowing one run while striking out six and not issuing a walk in seven innings.

Toronto will counter with A.J. Burnett (10-9, 4.84). The righthander has been the subject of numerous trade rumors of late and has gone 1-1 while allowing a total of three runs in 15.1 innings in his last two starts. He leads the AL with 132 strikeouts.
