8 MLB Player Prop Bets for Monday

New York Mets vs. Washington Nationals

• Max Scherzer under 7.5 strikeouts (-112)
• Pete Alonso to record 2+ total bases (-105)
• J.D. Davis to record a hit (-220)

The Mets are on a good run as they come in with a seven-game winning streak and prepare to play the league’s worse team. The Braves are proving to be the real deal, and if New York wants to win the NL East, they need to win these games against below-average teams.

Max Scherzer is back from his IL stint, and it looks like he never left. In July, he has a 1.39 ERA, a 0.84 WHIP , and the strikeouts are starting to climb back with 12.6 per nine. He’ll head back to Nationals Park, where he’s all too comfortable as he served as the National’s ace for five and a half seasons.

Patrick Corbin’s struggles are well documented as he has the highest ERA amongst qualified starters (6.49), a league-worse 14 losses, and he’s allowed five or more runs in three straight starts. It’s impossible not to wager against Corbin when he take the mound.

Boston Red Sox vs. Houston Astros

• Luis Garcia over 6.5 strikeouts (+118)
• Yordan Alvarez to record 3+ total bases (+165)

What is going on with the Red Sox? In June, they went 20-6 with a +44 run differential, but they plummeted in July, going 8-19 with a -77.

Nathan Eovaldi has struggled with lower back inflammation since coming back from the In. He’s coming in with an 11.08 ERA in three starts in July, including the season’s second-shortest start (2.2). The shortest was against his opponent tonight, going just 1.2 innings allowing six earned, including five home runs.

Luis Garcia has lacked consistency throughout the season, and it’s especially noticeable that the Astros are loaded with dependable starters. His biggest problem recently has been trouble with his control, allowing ten walks in his last 23.1. His start against the Red Sox did not go well, allowing five runs (three earned) with three walks.

Even with Garcia not pitching so well, the Red Sox offense may not take advantage of it as they’ve gone cold over the last couple of weeks with the third-lowest average since July 15 (.223).

Colorado Rockies vs. San Diego Padres

• Mike Clevinger over 5.5 strikeouts (-138)
• Manny Machado to record 2+ total bases (+100)
• Jake Cronenworth to record a hit (-230)

The Rockies will hit the road after a rough homestead going 2-4 and losing eight of their last 11. Not good, especially for a team that does not play as well on the road.

Antonio Senzatela has struggled through the season, and is looking for his first win since June 19. He’s lucky to have a 4.90 ERA as he rarely has a smooth outing with an expected ERA of 5.68 and in the one percentile of xBA and whiff percentage.

Mike Clevinger will go for the Padres, and although his starts against Colorado this year were not good, both were in Denver. Road pitchers always seem to struggle in thin air, hence why they’re one of the best home lineups in the league. Overall Clevinger has success against this Rockies roster with a collective batting average of .197 and a 27.9 strikeout percentage.

The Rockies are notorious for losing the first road game after a homestand, so it’s always best to fade on these games, especially with a struggling pitcher.
