Orioles, Blue Jays end series in unusual fashion
Jul 24, 2008 - 11:12 AM Toronto (49-51) at Baltimore (48-51) 12:05 pm EDTBALTIMORE (Ticker) -- The Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays wrap up their series in unusual fashion on Thursday
Heavy rain and lightning caused Wednesday's game to be suspended in the top of the sixth inning.
Toronto had just taken a 2-1 lead but following a delay of 1 hour, 44 minutes, the contest was suspended.
The game will be resumed at 12:05 p.m. EDT. Scott Rolen will be at the plate with a 1-0 count, two outs and Lyle Overbay on third base for the Blue Jays.
Rolen doesn't know who will be pitching to him, however, as both managers were unsure who would be taking the mound when the game resumes.
Toronto's Roy Halladay is scheduled to face Baltimore's Daniel Cabrera in Thursday's regularly scheduled contest, which will begin 20 minutes following the conclusion of the suspended game.
The All-Star Halladay (11-7, 2.89 ERA) had won three consecutive starts before surrendering five runs and eight hits in six innings, walking three while striking out six during Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. Despite the loss, Halladay logged at least six innings for the sixth straight outing.
Cabrera (6-5, 4.57), who has one victory in his last five decisions after winning three straight starts in May, continues to struggle with his control.
The 27-year-old righthander leads the American League with 62 walks and has surrendered 15 over his last three starts, pitching into the seventh inning once over that span despite logging at least 101 pitches during each outing.
