Parra, Brewers try to continue winning streaks
Jul 25, 2008 - 10:06 AM Houston (46-55) at Milwaukee (59-43) 8:05 p.m. EDTMILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- With all the attention on CC Sabathia, Milwaukee Brewers starter Manny Parra's run of success has gone mostly unnoticed.
Parra goes for his ninth straight win on Friday when the Brewers play host to the Houston Astros.
Milwaukee acquired Sabathia from the Cleveland Indians earlier this month. The reigning American League Cy Young Award winner is 4-0 and has logged three consecutive complete games, helping the Brewers to move within one game of the first-place Chicago Cubs in the National League Central.
Parra (9-2, 3.68 ERA) has been almost as effective, his last lost coming on May 3 - a span of 14 starts.
The 25-year-old lefthander snapped a streak of three straight no-decisions last time out, allowing two runs and seven hits in 7 2/3 innings, walking two while striking out a season-high nine during Sunday's 7-4 victory over the San Francisco Giants.
Wandy Rodriguez (5-3, 3.31) tries to halt the Brewers' eight-game win streak when he takes the mound for the Astros, who have dropped four straight contests. Rodriguez, however, has lost his last four starts at Miller Park, surrendering 19 runs and 24 hits in 19 2/3 innings.
