White Sox visit Twins in key AL Central clash
Jul 28, 2008 - 1:19 PM Chi White Sox (59-44) at Minnesota (57-47) 8:10 p.m. EDTMINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- The Chicago White Sox hope to put some more distance between themselves and the Minnesota Twins on Monday when the two teams meet in the opener of a four-game series at the Metrodome.
Chicago took two out of three against the Detroit Tigers over the weekend and currently lead Minnesota by 2.5 games in the American League Central. The White Sox had their four-game winning streak snapped with a 6-4 setback on Sunday.
Mark Buehrle (8-8, 3.56 ERA) will take the mound for the White Sox as he goes for his third straight victory.
The lefthander allowed one run in 7 1/3 innings last Tuesday as Chicago posted a 10-2 victory over the Texas Rangers. He is 21-11 in his career against the Twins.
Minnesota won the final two games of a three-game set with the Cleveland Indians over the weekend, which followed a five-game losing streak.
The struggling Kevin Slowey (6-7, 4.41) will be on the hill for the Twins. The righthander has allowed a combined 10 runs in his last two starts, which have spanned just nine innings. Slowey took the loss during Minnesota's 8-2 setback to the New York Yankees last Tuesday, giving up four runs in 5 1/3 innings.
Slowey lost his last start against the White Sox on June 8, allowing eight runs and 10 hits in three innings.
