Galarraga aims to help Tigers bounce back vs. Indians

CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- Detroit Tigers' rookie Armando Galarraga has been quite the revelation. The Tigers hope their promising righthander can help them rebound from a tough loss in the middle game of a three-game set with the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday.

Detroit entered the season with hopes of having of the one best lineups in baseball. However, the offense has struggled at times. On Monday the Tigers were shutout for an American League-leading 11th time, 5-0.

If not for the emergence of Galarraga (8-4, 3.27 ERA), Detroit's 6.5-game deficit in the American League Central Division would likely be larger. The 26-year-old Galarraga has been filling the void left by Dontrelle Willis, who has been either hurt or ineffective in his first season in the Motor City.

Galarraga, who carried a perfect game into the seventh inning of Wednesday's 7-1 victory over Kansas City, is 2-0 with a 2.92 ERA in two starts vs. Cleveland this season.

The Indians counter with Matt Ginter (1-1, 2.45), who allowed three runs and seven hits in six innings of a 3-2 loss on Tuesday. Ginter is making his third start in place of rookie Aaron Laffey.
