Twins eyeing first place vs. White Sox

MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- The Minnesota Twins will try and take over first place in the American League Central on Wednesday when they duel the Chicago White Sox.

The Twins moved within one-half game of the first-place White Sox with a come-from-behind victory on Tuesday after forging a 7-0 triumph during the series opener.

Minnesota, which is trying to oust Chicago from the top spot for the first time since May 17, erased a 4-0 deficit Tuesday with five runs in the fifth inning en route to a 6-5 win - its fourth straight after a four-game losing streak.

Justin Morneau dealt the biggest blow, stroking a bases-loaded double. The 2006 American League MVP, Morneau is 4-for-7 in this series, belting one homer - a two-run blast on Monday - and six RBI.

Morneau looks to stay hot against Gavin Floyd (10-6, 3.57), who tries to snap a personal two-game slide.

Floyd surrendered nine runs - seven earned - in 8 2/3 innings during his pair of losses. The 25-year-old righthander looked better in his last start, yielding four runs - three earned - and nine hits in six innings, but did not factor in the decision as Chicago posted a 6-5 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Friday.

Livan Hernandez (10-7, 5.31) is also aiming to bounce back from a loss when he counters for the Twins.

Hernandez, who has pitched a team-high 135 2/3 innings, allowed five runs and 12 hits in eight innings, walking three while striking out six during Friday's 5-4 setback to the Cleveland Indians.
