Rockies seek to secure rare winning road trip vs. Marlins

Aug 2, 2008 - 10:27 AM Colorado (50-61) at Florida (58-52) 7:10 pm. EDT

MIAMI (Ticker) -- Colorado has struggled on the road, but things are starting to look up. The Rockies can secure their first winning trip in over three months with a victory on Saturday against the Florida Marlins.

The Rockies had lost 25 of 31 away from home prior to the All-Star break, and their 39 losses away from home are the most in baseball.

However, they are 5-3 on this 10-game swing, and will try and beat up on Ricky Nolasco (10-6, 3.94 ERA). The righthander is 0-2 with a 5.50 ERA in his last three starts. He showed some signs of improving on Monday in a 7-3 win over the New York Mets, allowing two runs and seven hits in six innings.

Prior to this rough stretch, Nolasco had been the Marlins' best starter, going 9-1 with a 2.84 ERA in 13 outings before the All-Star break.

The Marlins, who trail the Philadelphia Phillies (59-50) by 1 1/2 games in the National League East, look to tee off on Valerio De Los Santos (0-0, 4.50). The 35-year-old lefthander made his first start since 2005 on Monday and alllowed two runs and two hits with six walks in four-plus innings of a 8-4 loss to Pittsburgh.
