Orioles aim for yet another win vs. lowly Mariners
Aug 2, 2008 - 7:10 PM Baltimore (52-56) at Seattle (41-68) 10:10 p.m. EDTSEATTLE (Ticker) -- The Baltimore Orioles wish they could play all their games against the Seattle Mariners.
The Orioles go for their fifth win in six games overall and eighth in nine tries against the lowly Mariners on Saturday.
Baltimore pounded 16 hits and starter Garrett Olsen carried a shutout into the ninth inning as the Orioles claimed a 10-5 victory over Seattle on Friday.
The Orioles scored eight runs in the fifth inning - their highest scoring frame since July 22, 2006 when they struck for nine runs in one inning against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Baltimore's success can be attributed to its offense, which has averaged just over seven runs in the last six games.
Felix Hernandez (7-6, 3.02 ERA) tries to silence the Orioles for the Mariners, who have lost 10 of 13. Hernandez has allowed two runs in 15 innings in two starts against Baltimore, but did not factor in either decision.
Jeremy Guthrie (7-8, 3.49) tries to continue his recent success for the Orioles.
Guthrie has surrendered two runs or fewer in four of his last six starts, posting a 3-1 record over that span. The 29-year-old righthander yielded one run and three hits in 6 1/3 innings during Monday's 13-4 victory against the New York Yankees.
