Nationals eyeing rare three-game winning streak

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- The Washington Nationals seek their first three-game winning streak in over six weeks when they host the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday.

The Nationals, who had lost nine straight before their current surge, erased an early four-run deficit and posted a 10-6 comeback victory over the Reds on Saturday.

Washington, which owns the worst record in the majors, has three winning streaks of three games or longer. The Nationals have not won more than four games in a row.

Nationals starter Collin Balester (1-3, 5.13 ERA) is hoping to end a three-game skid. The rookie righthander allowed two runs and six hits with five strikeouts over six frames in Tuesday's 2-1 setback to the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Reds will counter with rookie righthander Johnny Cueto (7-10, 5.02), who has lost five of his previous seven. The 22-year-old Dominican was tagged for five runs and eight hits over six innings during Monday's 5-4 loss to the Houston Astros.

Cincinnati has lost seven of eight.
