Youkilis, Red Sox hope to sweep struggling Athletics

BOSTON (Ticker) -- All-Star Kevin Youkilis will attempt to build off a two-homer performance when the Boston Red Sox host the Oakland Athletics on Sunday.

Youkilis, who is also trying to extend his hitting streak to 10 games, blasted a pair of two-run home runs as the Red Sox cruised to a 12-2 victory over the Athletics on Saturday.

The 29-year-old Youkilis is batting .313 with a club-high 20 blasts and 74 RBI.

Oakland, which has lost five straight and eight of nine, will turn to righthander Dallas Braden (2-1, 4.39 ERA) in hopes of shutting down Youkilis and the rest of Boston's talented offense.

Braden, who is making his third start and 12th appearance, is hoping to bounce back from his first loss. He gave up four runs and six hits with seven strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings during Monday's 4-2 setback to the Kansas City Royals.

He will be opposed by righthander Daisuke Matsuzaka (11-2, 3.04), who was tagged for six runs and seven hits over five frames in Monday's 7-5 loss to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Boston trails the division-leading Tampa Bay Rays by three games in the American League East.
