Maddux seeks career win No. 352

Aug 3, 2008 - 8:48 AM San Francisco (46-63) at San Diego (42-69) 4:05 pm EDT

SAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- Life after win No. 350 hasn't been easy for Greg Maddux. However, the same cannot be said for how he has handled the San Francisco Giants over his career.

Maddux will take the mound on Sunday as the San Diego Padres meet the Giants.

When Maddux (4-8, 4.29 ERA) became the ninth pitcher in major league history to reach 350 career wins on May 10, it didn't figure to take the righthander long to surpass Roger Clemens' 354 victories for eighth place on the all-time list.

However, Maddux went went 0-5 with a 4.54 ERA over his next 14 starts before ending his long winless streak in Monday's 8-5 victory over the Diamondbacks after he permitted four runs and nine hits over five frames.

If he has any hope of extending his 20-season streak of recording at least 10 wins, the four-time National League Cy Young Award winner would be well-served to maintain his career-long dominance of the Giants, against whom he is 29-14 with a 2.81 ERA over 52 starts.

Another win vs. San Francisco would make the Giants the second team Maddux has posted 30 wins against. He has already reached the plateau against the New York Mets.

Standing in his way will be Kevin Correia (2-5, 5.80), who notched his first win since April 10 in his last outing. The righthander picked up the victory despite surrendering six runs - four earned -and seven hits over 5 1/3 innings in Monday's 7-6 win over the Dodgers.
