Parra, Arroyo hope to rebound from poor outings
Aug 4, 2008 - 1:29 PM Milwaukee (62-50) at Cincinnati (51-61)CINCINNATI (Ticker) -- If ever there was a time for the Milwaukee Brewers to make up their deficit in the National League Central Division, it may be over the next 10 games.
The Brewers begin a 10-game stretch against the National League's worst teams Monday when they start a three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds.
Following this series with Cincinnati, which sports the worst record in the NL Central, Milwaukee will host a four-game set vs. Washington (41-70) - owners of the worst record in baseball.
They wrap up the stretch with a three-game series against San Diego (43-69), which resides in the NL West basement. The Brewers hope they can cut away at the five-game deficit they face after suffering a four-game sweep against the first-place Chicago Cubs last week.
Manny Parra (9-4, 3.93 ERA) will look to take advantage of the weak schedule while also hoping to avoid a third consecutive loss on Monday. The lefthander surrendered five runs and eight hits over 5 1/3 innings in a 7-2 loss to the Cubs on Wednesday.
Parra's current two-game slide came after the 24-year-old went 8-0 with a 2.93 ERA over his previous 14 games, including 13 starts.
Parra will be facing Bronson Arroyo (9-8, 5.74), who also will be looking to rebound from a subpar outing of his own. The righthander saw his five-start winning streak come to an end Tuesday after surrendering six runs over 6 1/3 innings in a 6-2 loss at Houston.
