Nationals eyeing fourth straight win vs. Rockies
Aug 4, 2008 - 1:38 PM Washington (41-70) at Colorado (51-62), 9:05 pm EDTDENVER (Ticker) -- The Washington Nationals attempt to match their season high with four consecutive victories Monday when they visit the Colorado Rockies in the opener of a four-game series.
Lasting Milledge homered in each of the last two wins, including a solo shot during Sunday's 4-2 triumph over the Cincinnati Reds. Milledge is batting .243 with nine home runs and 36 RBI this season.
The Nationals, who own the worst record in the majors, are in the midst of just their fourth winning streak of three games or longer this season.
Washington starter Tim Redding (7-6, 4.34 ERA) is hoping to continue this rare trend and snap his personal three-game losing skid. The righthander was tagged for seven runs and 10 hits over four frames in Wednesday's 8-5 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Rockies will counter with righthander Aaron Cook (14-6, 3.53), who is looking to join Arizona's Brandon Webb as the only 15-game winner in the majors. Cook has won each of his last three starts.
The sinkerballer permitted four runs and nine hits over seven innings in Wednesday's 7-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Pinch hitter Seth Smith delivered a go-ahead single in the top of the ninth inning Sunday to give Colorado a 3-2 win over the Florida Marlins and a split of the four-game series.
