Waters makes debut for Orioles
Aug 5, 2008 - 12:58 PM Balimore (53-58) at LA Angels (70-42), 10:05 pm EDTANAHEIM, California (Ticker) -- Chris Waters is set to make his major league debut when the Baltimore Orioles meet the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Tuesday.
The 27-year-old Waters (NR), who will be recalled before the game, went 8-6 with a 4.65 ERA this season, splitting time between Class AAA Norfolk and Class AA Bowie.
The Angels will counter with righthander Jon Garland (10-6, 4.30 ERA), who is seeking his third straight win. Los Angeles provided plenty of run support, scoring 23 runs in Garland's two victories.
Torii Hunter helped the Angels erase the memory of squandering a four-run lead, scoring the winning run on Chone Figgins' walk to lift his club to a 6-5 victory in Monday's series opener.
Vladimir Guerrero hit a two-run home run in the third inning for Los Angeles, which became the first team in the majors to reach the 70-win mark this season.
Hunter led off the ninth with a double off Orioles closer George Sherill (3-6) and advanced to third on Garret Anderson's groundout.
After issuing an intentional pass to Howie Kendrick, it appeared Sherill might get out of the jam when he got Juan Rivera to fly out. But Sherill then relinquished back-to-back walks to Jeff Mathis and Figgins.
