Hawpe, Rockies host woeful Nationals

Aug 6, 2008 - 10:18 AM DENVER (Ticker) -- Now that they ended the lowly Washington Nationals' longest winning streak, Brad Hawpe and the Colorado Rockies will try to build on their success on Wednesday.

After losing the series opener on Monday, Hawpe hit a two-run single to highlight a six-run eighth inning as the Rockies snapped the Nationals' four-game winning streak with an 8-2 victory on Tuesday.

Jesus Flores drove in a run for Washington, which failed to notch its longest winning streak since September.

Nationals starter Odalis Perez (4-8, 4.16 ERA) will attempt to help his club find its winning ways.

The Dominican lefthander yielded a run and three hits with three walks and five strikeouts over 7 1/3 frames in Friday's 5-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds.

Colorado will counter with lefthander Jeff Francis (3-7, 5.67), who was a 17-game winner last season. The Rockies are 2-6 during Francis' last eight starts.
