Lincecum eyeing first win since All-Star break

Aug 6, 2008 - 10:12 AM Atlanta (52-61) at San Francisco (47-65) 3:45 p.m. EDT

SAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) -- Tim Lincecum has been one of the best pitchers in majors, but has struggled to earn a victory since the All-Star break.

Lincecum takes the mound for the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday when they face the Atlanta Braves.

The 24-year-old lefthander, Lincecum (11-3, 2.71 ERA) ranks first in the majors with 167 strikeouts, fourth in ERA and owns a .786 win percentage - third in the National League.

However, he is 0-1 in three starts since the "Midsummer Classic" despite yielding only three runs while striking out 24 over 14 innings in his last two outings.

Lincecum has not faced the Braves this season but did earn a pair of wins in two starts against them in 2007, allowing five runs in 11 innings. He will try to duplicate those performances after Atlanta posted an 11-4 victory Tuesday as lefthander Mike Hampton earned his first win in nearly three years, giving up two runs and four hits in seven innings.

Chuck James (2-4, 9.47) aims for a similar outing for the Braves. James tries to bounce back after surrendering six runs and six hits in 2 2/3 innings during Friday's 9-0 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers - his first start since May 15.
