Halladay, Blue Jays face off vs. Indians
Aug 9, 2008 - 10:14 AM Cleveland (50-64) at Toronto (59-57) 1:07 p.m. EDTTORONTO (Ticker) -- The Toronto Blue Jays will turn to their ace to try and start a new winning streak when they face off against the Cleveland Indians on Saturday.
Toronto had its four-game run snapped in a 5-2 loss to Cleveland on Friday. Anthony Reyes, who the Indians acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals on July 26, allowed one run over 6 1/3 innings in his debut after being recalled from Class AAA Buffalo.
Righthander Roy Halladay (13-8, 2.77) takes the ball for the Blue Jays. The 2003 Cy Young winner has already matched a career-high with eight losses, despite owning the third best ERA in the American League.
He leads the American League in innings pitched with 175 1/3 and ranks third with 149 strikeouts.
Righthanded veteran Paul Byrd (6-10, 4.72) counters for Cleveland. The 37-year-old Byrd will be looking to win his fourth straight start after going winless in six consecutive starts, posting an 0-5 record.
During his personal three-game win streak, Byrd has allowed two earned runs in 20 innings without surrendering a home run. The nine-year vet leads the American League in home runs allowed with 23, including 17 on the road.
