Astros making move thanks to LF Lee
Aug 9, 2008 - 11:40 AM Houston (56-59) at Cincinnati (52-65) 7:10 p.m. EDTCINCINNATI (Ticker) -- The Houston Astros are suddenly surging and its all on the strength of Carlos Lee.
Lee and the Astros try to continue their winning ways on Saturday when they continue their series against the Cincinnati Reds.
A 32-year-old left fielder, Lee has been on fire since June 20, leading the majors with a .390 batting average and 47 RBI while ranking fifth with 13 home runs.
"The last couple of months, I don't think there has been a better player in baseball," Astros manager Cecil Cooper said of Lee. "Offensively and defensively he played just outstanding."
Lee had four hits, including a home run, and added three RBI as the Astros earned their 10th win in the last 14 games, 9-5, in 10 innings against the Reds on Friday.
"When I get people on base, I'm not trying to do too much," said Lee, who leads the National League with 100 RBI. "I take the best approach that I can, and take what the game gives me."
Lee tries to continue his offensive exploits against Bronson Arroyo, who has been a bright spot recently for the Reds.
Arroyo (10-8, 5.55 ERA) surrendered a career-high 10 runs in one inning against the Toronto Blue Jays on June 24, but has been red-hot in seven starts since, posting a 6-1 record and 3.65 ERA.
Brian Moehler (7-4, 4.01) tries to earn his fourth straight win and third in as many starts when he counters for Houston.
