Cook goes for 15th win for Rockies

DENVER (Ticker) -- Aaron Cook has been one of the few bright spots in an otherwise disappointing season for the Colorado Rockies.

Cook looks to become only the second 15-game winner in the National League when he takes the mound for the Rockies against the San Diego Padres on Saturday.

After surging into the playoffs in the final month last season and advancing to the first World Series in franchise history, Colorado entered the 2008 campaign with high expectations. However, the Rockies currently find themselves in third place in the soft National League West Division, seven games behind the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Colorado would likely be in a much worse situation without Cook (14-7, 3.68 ERA), who ranks second in the NL in wins and innings (166 1/3). He also was named to his first All-Star team last month.

The 29-year-old righthander had a three-game personal win streak snapped during his last start, but is poised to rebound against the Padres. Cook is 2-0 in two starts vs. San Diego this season, surrendering only one run and eight hits in 16 innings.
