Dodgers look to rebound from tough loss vs. Giants

SAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Dodgers will be attempting to bounce back from a tough defeat when they visit the San Francisco Giants on Sunday.

Poised to move into first place in the National League West for the first time since April 4 with a victory, the Dodgers took a 2-1 lead in the top of the 10th inning on a solo homer by Jeff Kent.

But Jonathan Broxton failed to protect the lead in the bottom of the frame, allowing a leadoff double to Dave Roberts and ultimately a game-winning single to Aaron Rowand with the bases loaded to give the Giants a 3-2 victory.

The loss kept Los Angeles one-half game behind the Arizona Diamondbacks (59-58) in the NL West.

Manny Ramirez kept up his hot start with the Dodgers in the loss, finishing 3-for-5 to push his average to .485 (16-for-33) in eight games.

Chad Billingsley (11-9, 3.01 ERA) will get the start for Los Angeles. The 24-year-old righthander is 2-0 over his last three starts, allowing three runs in 21 2/3 total innings while striking out 18.

One of those win was against San Francisco on July 30 when Billingsley earned his first career shutout while allowing five hits without issuing a walk.

The Giants will counter with righthander Matt Cain (7-9, 3.60). The 23-year-old suffered a loss against the Dodgers on July 29 despite yielding two runs - one earned - and striking out eight in 7 2/3 innings.
