Mets go for sweep of Marlins

FLUSHING, New York (Ticker) -- The New York Mets will look to string together four straight wins for the first time since the All-Star break when they go for a sweep of the Florida Marlins on Sunday.

New York has taken the first two games of the series after Florida won two of three at home against the Mets in the last week of July.

The pitching matchup will be a rematch of the middle game of the July series, with the Mets' Mike Pelfrey squaring off against Josh Johnson.

Pelfrey (10-7, 3.85) took the loss on July 29, his first since May 26, which also came against the Marlins. The righthander has not lasted past the fourth inning against his division rival in two starts, allowing a combined 11 runs, nine earned, on 14 hits in eight innings.

In five career starts against the Marlins, Pelfrey is 1-3 with a 6.39 ERA

Johnson (2-0, 3.34) makes his sixth start after returning from elbow surgery last August. The righthander is 2-0 in his five starts and the Marlins are a perfect 5-0 in those games.

The 24-year-old, who is 3-0 lifetime against the Mets with a 1.52 ERA, is coming off his best start. He pitched six scoreless innings in an 8-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies, scattering five hits and four walks, striking out three.

The Mets (62-54) sit one game behind the Phillies (63-53), while the Marlins (61-56) find themselves in third place, 2 1/2 games back.
