White Sox look to regain division lead against Red Sox

CHICAGO (Ticker) -- The Chicago White Sox lost a game, a pitcher, and a division lead on Saturday night. They will attempt to get back to their winning ways when they host the Boston Red Sox on Sunday.

White Sox starter Jose Contreras, pitching for the first time since suffering an elbow injury on July 13, ruptured his left Achilles tendon in the second inning Saturday night and will have season-ending surgery.

Chicago's bullpen held strong until the seventh inning, when Dustin Pedroia snapped a 1-1 tie with an RBI single and David Ortiz hit a bases-loaded double to put the Red Sox in front, 5-1. Lefthander Boone Logan suffered the loss and will be optioned back to Class AAA Charlotte prior to Sunday's contest.

With the setback and a victory over Kansas City by the Minnesota Twins (65-51), the White Sox fell one-half game back in the Central Division standings.

Chicago will turn to Gavin Floyd (11-6, 3.66) to try to get back on the winning track. The 25-year-old righthander was roughed up in his last outing, allowing five runs and eight hits in four innings Tuesday at Detroit, though he did not factor in the decision.

Boston will counter with rookie Clay Buchholz (2-7, 5.94). The righthander is currently riding the longest losing streak amongst AL starters at seven starts. He has not earned a win since May 2 against Tampa Bay.

Since being recalled from the minors on July 11, Buchholz is 0-4 with a 6.59 ERA while issuing 15 walks and 33 hits in 27 1/3 innings.
