White Sox go for series win over Boston
Aug 11, 2008 - 1:43 PM Boston (67-51) at Chicago (65-51) 8:11 p.m. EDTCHICAGO (Ticker) -- The Chicago White Sox find themselves back atop the American League Central division entering Monday's series finale against the Boston Red Sox.
The White Sox regained their hold on division lead, just a day after they lost it, with a 6-5 win on Sunday. That win, coupled with a 5-4 extra-inning loss by the Minnesota Twins to the Kansas City Royals, catapulted Chicago 1/2 game ahead of their division rival.
Chicago has taken two of the first three games during the weekend from the AL Wild Card leading Red Sox. Carlos Quentin and Jim Thome have each homered twice in the series.
John Danks (9-4, 3.21) puts his 13-game unbeaten streak on the line against a team he has never beaten in the Red Sox. The righthander is 6-0 during his streak, not having lost since a 2-0 defeat against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
In two starts last season against Boston, Danks is 0-2 with a 8.68 ERA.
The Red Sox, who sit 4 1/2 games behind the red-hot Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East, send Josh Beckett (10-8, 4.08) to the mound. The righthander snapped a personal three-game losing streak in a 8-2 win over the Kansas City Royals last time out. He allowed four hits and two runs, with two walks and seven strikeouts.
Boston is just 11-10 in Beckett's 21 starts this season. In four career starts against Chicago, Beckett is 3-0 with a 4.64 ERA.
