Brewers eye sixth consecutive victory

Aug 11, 2008 - 1:49 PM Washington (44-74) at Milwaukee (67-51) 2:05 pm EDT

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- On Sunday, it took the Milwaukee Brewers four chances to wrap up a win against the Washington Nationals. One day later, they hope six will be their magic number.

The Brewers will try to extend their second long winning streak in less than a month when they attempt to sweep a four-game set against the Nationals.

Milwaukee, which also won eight straight from July 13-24, missed out on prime scoring chances in the ninth, 10th and 11th innings on Sunday before Gabe Kapler hit his first career walk-off homer in the 13th to complete a 5-4, comeback victory over Washington.

The Brewers' fifth consecutive win came without slugger Ryan Braun, who was sidelined with back pain suffered while swinging in the first inning of Saturday's win. He is day-to-day.

Milwaukee will turn to Dave Bush (6-9, 4.50 ERA), who is coming off a rare solid start on the road. The righthander, whose 6.19 ERA away from Miller Park is nearly double of his 3.30 home ERA, yielded one run and three hits with seven strikeouts over seven innings in an 8-1 victory over Cincinnati.

Washington will counter with rookie Garrett Mock (0-2, 4.91), who was recalled from Class AAA Columbus on Thursday. The righthander has made four relief appearances since dropping his first two career starts, throwing a scoreless frame in Friday's 5-0 loss to the Brewers.
