Dunn debuts for Diamondbacks at Colorado

Aug 12, 2008 - 1:58 PM Arizona (60-58) at Colorado (53-67) 9:05 p.m. EDT

DENVER (Ticker) -- The Arizona Diamondbacks boast one of the best pitching staffs in the National League. On Monday, they added one of baseball's best sluggers to their lineup too.

Newly-acquired Adam Dunn will hit cleanup and start in right field for the Diamondbacks Tuesday when they begin a three-game series against the Colorado Rockies.

Arizona sent minor league pitcher Dallas Buck to the Cincinnati Reds, in addition to two players to be named later to bring Dunn aboard.

The lefthanded slugger is tied for the most home runs in Major League Baseball with 32, and will look to spark a lineup that ranks in the bottom half of the league in runs scored, home runs and batting. The move comes after the Los Angeles Dodgers (59-59), who sit just a game back in the National League West, acquired slugger Manny Ramirez from the Boston Red Sox.

Arizona will send veteran Randy Johnson (9-8, 4.24) to the mound. The lefthander will be attempting to get back to his winning ways after his five-game win streak was snapped last time out. The 44-year-old lefthander has looked like the Johnson of old during his last six starts, posting a 5-1 record with a 1.59 ERA and 32 strikeouts.

In his last start, Johnson was outdueled by Pittsburgh Pirates starter Jeff Karstens. The former New York Yankee product took a perfect-game into the eighth inning before completing a nine-inning two-hitter in a 2-0 Pittsburgh win.

Colorado will send righthanded hurler Ubaldo Jimenez (8-10, 3.86) to the hill. The 24-year-old had a four-game winning streak last time out when he allowed six runs and eight hits, along with six walks in just five innings against the Washington Nationals.

Jimenez has been stellar at Coors Field this season. He owns a 5-3 record with a solid 3.10 ERA in the well-known hitter's ballpark.
