Robertson eyeing back-to-back wins against Orioles

DETROIT (Ticker) -- Detroit Tigers lefthander Nate Robertson has struggled, but a meeting with the Baltimore Orioles is exactly what he needs to claim back-to-back wins for the first time in almost two months.

Robertson looks to continue his dominance of the Orioles on Friday when the teams meet.

Robertson (7-8, 5.84 ERA) won three consecutive starts in June before failing to register a victory in his next eight. The 30-year-old lefthander ended that slide Sunday, allowing one run and five hits in 7 2/3 innings as the Tigers claimed a 6-1 victory over the lowly Oakland Athletics.

Robertson aims to duplicate that performance on Friday. After losing his first career start against the Orioles, the lefty has posted a 4-0 record and 3.32 ERA in seven starts since.

However, Baltimore managed to pound Robertson during its last meeting, scoring seven runs in 2 1/3 frames on July 19. Robertson did not factor in the decision as the the Tigers dropped an 11-10 decision in 10 innings.

Rookie Chris Waters (1-0, 4.50) makes his third start in the majors for the Orioles. Waters surrendered one hit in his debut, but gave up six runs in four innings during his last start - a 15-7 loss to the Texas Rangers.
