Indians LHP Lee goes for 17th win
Aug 15, 2008 - 10:26 AM LA Angels (75-44) at Cleveland (54-66) 7:05 p.m. EDTCLEVELAND (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim own the best record in the majors on the strength of a dominating rotation.
The Angels get a taste of their own medicine on Friday when they face Cliff Lee and the Cleveland Indians.
Anaheim, the only team with 75 wins, ranks fourth in the majors with a 3.90 ERA and has two pitchers, Joe Saunders and Ervin Santana, who own ERAs in the top 12 in the American League.
However, no one in the Angels' rotation has been as dominant as Lee (16-2, 2.45 ERA), who is first in the majors in ERA and is looking to tie Brandon Webb of the Arizona Diamondbacks as the only pitcher with 17 wins.
Lee has won each of his last two starts and five of his previous six outings. The 29-year-old lefthander was his usual impressive self on Sunday, pitching eight scoreless innings en route to a 4-0 victory against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Jered Weaver (10-9, 4.51) has won two of his last three starts and tries to continue his winning ways when he takes the mound for the Angels.
