Cubs finally finding success on the road
Aug 15, 2008 - 10:24 AM Chi Cubs (74-47) at Florida (63-59) 7:10 p.m. EDTMIAMI (Ticker) -- The Chicago Cubs have had no problem winning at home. Claiming victories on the road has proven more difficult - until now.
The Cubs go for their ninth straight win on the road when they face the Florida Marlins on Friday.
Chicago, which owns a 4 1/2-game lead over the Milwaukee Brewers (70-52) in the National League Central Division, are tied with the Tampa Bay Rays for the best home record in the majors at 45-17.
However, the Cubs entered the second half without a series victory on the road since taking two of three games against the Toronto Blue Jays from June 13-15. After dropping four of its first six contests away from home following the All-Star break, Chicago turned things around and has not lost a road game since July 22.
Carlos Zambrano (12-5, 3.22 ERA) looks to continue the road success when he takes the mound on Friday. Chicago's ace is looking to bounce back from his worst start, which saw him allow nine runs -- four home runs and 10 hits in 4 1/3 innings en route to a 12-3 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday.
Josh Johnson (3-0, 3.19), who missed the first three months of 2008 while recovering from elbow surgery, goes for his fourth win in as many starts for the Marlins.
