Red Sox, Blue Jays drowned out

BOSTON (Ticker) -- Following an 85-minute delay, Friday's game between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Boston Red Sox was postponed due to rain.

The contest will be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader on Saturday, September 13, with the make-up game starting at 12:35 p.m. ET. The regularly scheduled game will begin at 7:05 p.m.

The rains delayed the debut of righthander Paul Byrd in a Red Sox uniform. Acquired in a trade with Cleveland on Tuesday, Byrd now will start Saturday night's game against Toronto ace Roy Halladay.

Boston's Josh Beckett will oppose Toronto's Shaun Marcum on Sunday.

The Red Sox moved Sunday's original starter, Clay Buchholz, back to Wednesday in Baltimore.

The Blue Jays also announced a roster move following the game, as lefthander Brian Tallet (right small toe) was activated from the 15-day disabled list and righthander Scott Richmond was optioned to Class AAA Syracuse.

In three starts for Toronto, Richmond was 0-2 with a 5.06 ERA.

The team also is expected to place lefthanded reliever Scott Downs on the disabled list with an injured ankle, necessitating more depth in the bullpen.

"With Downs down, Tallet gives us another lefthander," Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi said.

In regard to Richmond making his way back to the majors, Ricciardi was optimistic.

"We haven't made our minds up on September call-ups yet, but he did a good job, a real good job," Ricciardi said. "He came out of nowhere and put himself on the map. He kept us in three games. Going forward, he's definitely in our plans - that's great."
