Rockies try to carry recent road success back home
Aug 22, 2008 - 10:24 AM Cincinnati (56-72) at Colorado (59-70) 9:05 pm EDTDENVER (Ticker) -- Known for their strong play at home, the Colorado Rockies have been making a pretty nice living on the road lately. Upon their return to Coors Field, they hope that success carries over.
Winners of five of their last six away from home, the resurgent Rockies hope to continue their recent winning ways on Friday against the Cincinnati Reds.
Since its first two years after expansion in 1993, Colorado has suffered three losing home campaigns over the next 14 seasons. However, with a 25-41 record away from Coors Field, the Rockies are guaranteed a losing road record in every season they have been in existence.
Colorado has ignored its franchise-long road struggles recently.
Since the All-Star break, the Rockies are 11-5 away from home, and hope to carry that momentum to Coors Field, where they have dropped four of five.
They will try to extend the misery of Aaron Harang (3-13, 5.59 ERA), who has surrendered eight runs in each of his two games back from a month-long stint on the disabled list with a strained forearm.
The two-time, 16-game winner dropped his third straight start in Saturday's 9-3 setback to the St. Louis Cardinals after allowing three homers among his seven hits over 3 1/3 innings.
His struggles are not lost on Livan Hernandez (1-1, 15.58), who leads the league in hits (216) and runs allowed (108). In his second start since joining the Rockies off waivers from Minnesota, the righthander collected the win despite permitting six runs over six frames in a 13-6 rout of Washington on Saturday.
